Personal Excellence Training
A synopsis and answers to frequently asked questions
Personal Excellence Training is an intensive and powerful program, which begins with a two-day workshop and follows with three to six months of one-on-one coaching. The training program is designed for people who want to significantly enhance their skills in the areas of relationships, leadership, management, and coaching, as well as individuals who are prepared to practice this development by committing to achieve breakthroughs in their ability to create results with and through others. Thus, the participant emerges with a powerful new skill set and with concrete and significant achievements in the organization(s) within which they are working.
The following are frequently asked questions about Personal Excellence Training.
What are the elements of the training?
The training has three main components to it.

A 360° type evaluation, which the participant will solicit from 4-10 people who are familiar with his or her work. These anonymous assessments of the participant’s leadership style and effectiveness are summarized in statistical and graphic formats. Key themes are highlighted. In addition to these observers, the participant will also complete self-evaluations that help to develop a picture of his or her abilities and effectiveness. |

In a two-day workshop, this material is explored to give the participant a sharp and rich picture of the way he or she has operated, including the limitations in their effectiveness. During the workshop, the participant is helped to clarify their life vision, missions, and goals, and establish clear measures for success. New views of leadership, management, and coaching are developed in the context of this assessment of the participant’s past styles and future commitments. |

The participant leaves the workshop and develops concrete projects for future effectiveness. These plans provide the context for the ongoing coaching, through which the participant continues to learn about their effectiveness and puts the new tools to use. The coach will typically meet or speak with the participant every week to ten days to support the success of these projects. Each coaching relationship is customized to meet the special needs of each individual. |
What are your deliverables?
The “deliverables” of this program are determined by what each participant wants to have as a result of this work. My commitment is fundamentally not to a process or a service, but to securing the following results with participants:
- Breakthrough results in the participant’s ability to be more effective in areas of priority in their professional and personal life.
- Greater clarity about the participant’s strengths, weaknesses and new skills in relationship building, leadership, management, and coaching.
- Greater ability to work and adapt in new and creative ways beyond the identified limitations discovered during the workshop.
- A powerful sense of life purpose that can be tapped in all types of circumstances to move the participant forward in their professional and personal life.
- Skills of inquiry - to be able to see what is missing from a situation, which may be preventing the participant and/or their organization from moving forward.
What makes the program successful?
- The participant’s commitment to learn and change is the sine qua non, i.e., without it; there will not be success. The greater the hunger to learn and grow, the greater the success.
- The coach is personally committed to the participant’s success. The learning is not theoretical – although the concepts are deep, transportable, and well tested – but is geared toward practical, measurable results. I guarantee that the participant will get value in excess of fees.
- The learning model is simple – there are not a thousand movable parts or complicated esoteric theorems – yet it is effective. It has worked with all types of people in all types of situations.
- This work occurs “on the field.” It is not abstract. You don’t have to guess whether it is successful.
- I work not only with the mind, but also with the heart. I work in and from what some have written about as “emotional intelligence.” This process works “inside-out” and therefore generates long-term learning, because the participant learns from within.
Where is the training held?
Generally, at my office in Troy, Michigan or at nearby client sites.
What is the cost?
Since each coaching relationship is unique, we will need to discuss this based on your individual needs. Group rates are adjusted based upon the number of participants and the duration and scope of coaching. Fees cover all surveys, workshops, and coaching.
When are the trainings held?
Personal Excellence Trainings can usually be held within a month of the date a participant chooses to get started. Generally, the workshops are held on two consecutive workdays, allowing for six to eight hours on average daily.

I have worked with over 1,000 individuals, in large, medium and small organizations over the past twelve years. The program works well with entrepeneurs, partners, CEO’s, mid-level managers, and solo practitioners. The degree of openness a participant can bring to their professional and personal life and his or her basic willingness to commit to a better future are the key ingredients for success.
